Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Tony, one of the founding members of No.11 Cigars, in person for the first time. Tony is an extraordinary individual—a charismatic cigar lover and enthusiast. Our meeting was not only delightful but also insightful, offering a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind No.11 Cigars.
Last year, around November-December if memory serves correctly, I had the privilege to review their Torpedo vitola. Here's a brief overview:

Vitola: Torpedo
Country of Origin: Costa Rica
Strength: Medium
Size: 6.3 x 54
Ring Gauge: 54
Wrapper: Connecticut
Binder: Costa Rica
Filler: Costa Rica
Box Size: Singles
I found the Torpedo to be nothing short of spectacular. At the end of this post, you will find my detailed review of this cigar, which I published in March this year, coinciding with the brand’s launch.
During our meeting, I had the opportunity to taste their Premium Robusto vitola.

Here are the specifics:
Vitola: Robusto
Country of Origin: Costa Rica
Strength: Light
Size: 4.8 x 50
Ring Gauge: 50
Wrapper: Connecticut
Binder: Costa Rica
Filler: Costa Rica

This Robusto was exquisite—woody, earthy, and slightly spicy, developing into a sweet floral concoction of flavours and aromas. I found it difficult to put down, which is noteworthy as those who follow me know I am a staunch admirer of Cuban cigars and an absolute Habanos devotee. However, the No.11 Costa Rican puros seem to strike a harmonious balance between traditional New World cigars and Cuban craftsmanship, according to my palate.
As we were enjoying our cigars, I asked Tony how the brand name was born. He began by saying, "Well KD, it's not really a romantic story, but here is how it happened." He proceeded to tell me that he met his business partner, Matt, on holiday in Morocco about 12 years ago. They stayed in the same hotel, which had a swimming pool. Unfortunately, the water was very cold and not suitable for their kids to enjoy. They met around 11 am and decided to challenge each other to swim from one side to the other, where there was a bar, take a shot of liquor of choice, and swim back. They proceeded to do the ritual every day at 11 am and called it the "11 am Challenge," hence the name of the brand.
Tony and Matt then embarked on an almost 12-year journey, sampling cigars and different liquors in search of the ultimate pairing.

The rum is Caribbean, and the cigar is Costa Rican: They discovered this pairing during their travels in South America, where they fell in love with the local rum and cigar blends, the natural beauty of the country, and the warmth of its people who craft these incredible products.
Tony stood out among other cigar brand owners I have met. He was exceptionally down-to-earth and hospitable, eager to engage in conversation and share his extensive knowledge. Our discussion was a genuinely pleasant experience, and from it, an exciting idea emerged.
We conceived the idea of organising an in-person event in London for KD Leaf Diaries followers, featuring No.11 Cigars and their exquisite rum. This is a project I am thrilled to embark on with Tony.

Over the coming weeks, we will collaborate to finalise the details and hope to officially announce this event soon, aiming to host it at the end of September 2024.
As our meeting concluded, Tony graciously gifted me a sampler bottle of his artisan Caribbean rum, which I am eager to try. Please stay tuned for updates on this exciting development—I believe the event we are planning will be truly spectacular.
Torpedo Vitola Review
As promised, here is my review of the Torpedo vitola from No.11 Cigars, posted at the end of March this year.
The Torpedo vitola presents a harmonious blend of flavours that are both rich and balanced. Its medium strength offers a satisfying experience without overpowering the senses. The Connecticut wrapper, combined with the Costa Rican binder and filler, creates a smooth and enjoyable smoke, ideal for both seasoned aficionados and newcomers alike.
Each draw reveals layers of complexity, making it a standout in the New World cigar market.
I look forward to sharing more updates as our plans progress. Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for fine cigars.
